The die is a metal forming process wherein a sheet of metal is simultaneously stretched and bent over the die to create a large contoured metal component. Stretch forming is performed on a stretch press, where the metal sheet is securely clamped along its edge by clamping claws. Each claw is connected to a bracket that is pulled by pneumatic or hydraulic power to elongate the sheet. The metal drawing die penetrates into the sheet, tightly gripping its edge, increasing tension, and causing plastic deformation into a new shape. The horizontal drawing press positions the forming die sideways on a fixed press bench while the claw horizontally pulls the sheet around it. The tool employed in this process, known as a forming die or stretch forming block, serves as a robust template onto which the metal plate will be pressed. Vertical drawing presses are commonly used for this purpose. Each claw connects to a bracket that stretches the sheet using pneumatic or hydraulic force.
